Full description:
Built in 1954, Seaspeak sits on a private half acre wooded lot. Recently updated, the home is a combination of comfort and beauty. The first floor consists of a living room, dining room, a fully stocked kitchen, a laundry closet with a full-sized washer and dryer, three bedrooms and two full bathrooms. Upstairs you will find a fourth bedroom with three beds and a play area for children. The home boasts a new top of the line mini-split cooling system assuring that our guests are comfortable on warm days. As travelers ourselves, we have paid attention to the details in each room; In the bedrooms you will find new comfortable mattresses, flax linen or organic cotton duvet covers, blackout curtains, a smart TV and ample closet space. The dining room seats six comfortably but there is room for eight, if needed. The kitchen was remodeled in 2023 and is equipped with Samsung Bespoke Appliances, earth friendly flooring, a small table with seating for two or three and anything you might need for a quick or gourmet meal. The living room has ample comfortable seating, plenty of books (with an emphasis on Maine), games, a smart TV, bluetooth speaker, a turntable with vinyl records and a desk for writing or working.
Outside you will find a fire pit, adirondack chairs, dining table for al fresco dining, a gas grill, a gas stand for steaming lobster, oysters or clams and outdoor games. For your very own lobster and clambake, we highly recommend heading down the peninsula to buy lobster off of the boats, foraging seaweed from the beach and swinging by the Clam Hunter on the way back. So much fun and quintessential Maine! For our guests’ convenience we also have several beach chairs, towels and toys for beach days.
At Seaspeak you will find yourself centrally located to all that Midcoast Maine has to offer, including beautiful Popham Beach, Fort Popham, Reid State Park and Harpswell Islands. Harpswell is home to Bailey and Orr’s islands where there is a short but wonderful hike above the Midcoast cliffs called Giant’s Stairs Trail. Seaspeak is a few minute’s walk to Whiskeag Trail Head where you will find a five mile biking and hiking trail that connects to Thorn Head preserve located at the northern end of Bath. The Bath YMCA, a five-minute walk from Seaspeak is a 58,000 square foot facility. A daily or weekly pass is available to purchase for full use of the facilities, including the pools.
Head east into the heart of the Midcoast region to explore quintessential coastal towns like Wiscasset (15 minutes) home of the famous “Red Eats” lobster roll. A little further east is the picturesque town of Damariscotta with many art galleries to enjoy. South from Damariscotta you will discover Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, which is one of our favorite spots to visit. Boothbay (40 minutes east) is home to the Maine State Botanical Gardens. Coastal Maine Botanical Garden is the largest in all of New England and comprises more than 300 acres. Boothbay Harbor (40 minutes), with a bustling waterfront offers ferries, boats and excursions including the famous excursion to Cabbage Island for a clam and lobster bake. We highly recommend it! There is also a ferry to Monhegan Island where you will find hiking, a brewery and tons of sea glass. For shorter excursions, try a fishing charter, a lighthouse tour or a sail on a schooner!
Further East are Camden and Rockport (both one hour). Heading south from Bath, explore Freeport’s outlet shopping including Patagonia, North Face and LL Beans’ flagship store (which is open 24 hours!) Freeport is also home to Maine Beer Company and boasts a taproom with a restaurant. If you like beer, we highly recommend trying a “Maine Lunch”. Brunswick, our closest neighboring town (15 minutes) is the home of Bowdoin College and more shopping and dining. The city of Portland (35 to 40 minutes) has a working waterfront which hosts world renowned restaurants and plenty of shopping. Stop in at Becky’s diner for a whoopie pie or visit Portland Headlight, the most photographed lighthouse in all of Maine. Seaspeak’s location is perfect to explore much of Maine and you will find details for these recommendations and more in our guide book.
City of Bath: Bath is a beautiful, quintessential New England town located along the banks of the Kennebec River. Deemed a ‘distinctive destination’ by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the downtown is lined with historic brick and granite buildings that showcase locally owned restaurants, bakeries, bars and shops. Simply walking around the quiet cozy side streets to admire the 100-200 year old homes that have been fully restored, is a wonderful activity. Or if you’d prefer, take the beloved trolley, named Charlie, to see the sights around town. Bath is also home to the world class shipbuilder, Bath Iron Works, a working shipyard established in 1826. We encourage visitors to check out the Maine Maritime Museum to learn about the rich history of shipbuilding in the area. On Saturday Bath hosts the local farmers market on the green. You’ll find local vegetables, cheeses, seafood, pastries and bread. In the summer months there is music on the green, craft and art shows and family activities. The fourth of July parade, passes right in front of the house, so if you like, you’ll have your own front row seat! On the waterfront, you will find river run tours, lighthouse tours and nature cruises. In Midcoast Maine and Bath, there is something for everyone!
Accessibility: There are stairs to enter the home but once inside there are three bedrooms and two bathrooms on the main floor; the primary bathroom includes a walk-in shower.
Parking: There is off-street parking for up to four vehicles.
